Assessment

The ECO IWT Certification requires an independent, accredited assessment organisation to conduct a thorough assessment of an organisation’s compliance to the ECO IWT Certification standards every two years to maintain the highest possible level of credibility.

An assessment consists of an in-depth review of an organisation's documentation and a thorough on-site assessment of the implementation of the standards, objectives, targets, operational controls and management plans that an organisation has developed to fight the illegal wildlife trade.

A document review will establish that an organisation has documented the appropriate policies, procedures and measures to ensure the organisation will implement effective and impactful interventions and controls, and has the required administrative structures in place to ensure that the documentation is current, disseminated and effective.

The implementation assessment takes place on-site and requires an assessor to inspect and evaluate the implementation of standards and the adherence to policy, procedure, objectives, targets controls and management plans. An on-site assessment takes a minimum of two days and a document review at least one day.

Assessments are carried out by independent, highly qualified and experienced assessors to ensure the highest level of quality and consistency to ensure that organisations have a robust and credible certification while receiving the best level of support and guidance possible from an experienced assessor pool through workshops and training.

The Assessment Process

Once an organization commits to the ECO IWT Certification Program and implements all required standards, it must undergo a structured assessment process to ensure compliance. This process includes both internal and external evaluations to verify that the organization is effectively applying the program's requirements.
